Scope: Create a distinctive home that blurs the lines of indoor/ outdoor space, while minimizing views of other houses nearby.
Solution: This design connects indoor and outdoor spaces by focusing on near and far views. Carefully placed walls, windows and gardens minimize the view of other structures in the neighborhood. In conjunction with views, this design also carefully explores the idea of “Lightwell”, in both horizontal and vertical planes. Natural lighting and ventilation conditions were paramount to the success of the final solution.
Architectural Thoughts: The simple idea of the “Split Box” allowed us to create simple yet dynamic spaces both inside and out. We were very excited about the intimate exterior space that was created. This allowed us to seamlessly blend private outdoor spaces with the landscape.
