Scope: Design an award-winning home in Ketchum, ID. Key elements were a view of Bald Mountain and careful placement on the site to shield the view of the neighbors.

Solution: In collaboration with Jack Smith, Architect, and Lucas Design Associates, this design incorporates a stacked beam system allowing for very long, unsupported spans. The uninterrupted ceilings are without columns or walls unifying the indoor and outdoor spaces and creating a seamless transition from one to the other. The home was strategically placed on the site, with the windows and gardens minimizing views of the surrounding neighborhood.

Architectural Thoughts: The stacked beam system has never been done on this scale. Even the design team was impressed with its ability to span long distances giving it a very open feel. Put simply, “It’s going to be cool.”
